You can tell a lot about someone from the company they keep.

We engage broadly and seek to learn and share from like minded organisations across the world through memberships and connections that guide our responsible approach to banking. We hold the following memberships and affiliations:

  • Global Alliance for Banking on Values
  • United Nations Global Compact
  • Customer Owned Banking Association
  • Australian Banking Association
  • Australian Mutuals Institute
  • Business Council of Cooperatives and Mutuals

From our beginnings we have operated according to the international cooperative principles.

Bank Australia was the first Australian member of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values, a growing network of financial institutions committed to using banking to change the world through sustainable economic, social and environmental development.

The 54 members and 10 supporting partners of the Global Alliance have combined assets of almost US$163 billion and provide banking to more than 50 million customers in six continents.

We're also a member of the United Nations Global Compact - the largest corporate citizenship and sustainability initiative in the world which has over 12,000 corporate participants from over 145 countries. Our membership gives us the opportunity to network with other Australian organisations who are acting to address human rights, labour standards, environmental and anti-corruption issues in our community. Each year we report on our activity under the Compact.
