WIRE Women’s Information is one of Victoria’s most established women’s services with more than 30 years of history. The variety of the programs delivered by the organisation is centered around financial inclusion and employment for women.
The funding is used to organise and run 10 workshops to inform women about employment opportunities, reduce the barriers they face and tap into the feeling of insecurity when it comes to job hunting.
Listen CEO WIRE Women’s Information Julie Kun talking about the project and the opportunities they were able to generate for a cohort of women.
Feedback received from the participants was all positive.
Some are a one-line thank you note: “Today was valuable and struck a chord. You’ve made me think and given me hope”.
When others foregrounded the welcoming atmosphere of the workshops: “There is such a wealth of targeted information to work with; as was the entire series. Both the content and the welcoming, empowering, atmosphere generated at WIRE and specifically by you [Anna] and the Facilitator in these workshops created a safe space for me to begin to focus on where I'm truly at instead of becoming overwhelmed by where I think I should' be”.
Almost half way through the project, the workshops have been really successful, says CEO WIRE Women’s Information Julie Kun.
“It is almost like a weekly coaching for the participants. We invite presenters from the recruitment industry who discuss essential and yet vital aspects of the job search. We know that it is not an easy environment and it’s hard to talk about the challenges these women are facing, but we hope with these workshops we are building up their confidence” – says Kun.
