Today we are excited to unveil the next phase for the Bank Australia Conservation Reserve – a ten year strategy for our world-first private nature reserve.
At Bank Australia, we believe that protecting our native flora and fauna is important and that we all have a part to play.
That’s why your bank today has unveiled a vision for the Bank Australia Conservation Reserve informed by world-leading conservation science and developed over nearly a year in partnership with Greening Australia and Trust for Nature.
On behalf of our customers, we purchased the first of our now three conservation properties in 2008, as a way of acting on customer concerns about environmental conservation and climate change. For the first nine years of the project, we worked with over 680 community volunteers to plant over 70, 000 native seedlings, helping revegetate our 927 hectare property.
Today we look to the future of the Bank Australia Conservation Reserve as we launch ‘Reimagining the Future’ – our vision for a conservation reserve where threatened species have food and habitat, biodiversity will thrive and the community are central to the conservation process.
We will act within five action areas:
Wildlife and land conservation
Our focus is on creating healthy homes for wildlife where plants, animals, and people can thrive. Our work will be backed by science, informed by indigenous ecological knowledge and inspired by nature.
Climate change resilience
Climate change is already reshaping nature in Australia. We can address our own impacts and help to make sure that our precious wildlife will have a home in the future. Our actions will help people and nature adapt to a changing climate.
Engaging the community
We all value nature and acknowledge that our future depends on a healthy planet. We will engage and inspire the next generation to connect with nature by sharing stories about our conservation reserve and getting people to visit and spend time in nature.
Demonstrating environmental leadership
We will use bold and innovative strategies to reimagine the ways the business can tackle climate change and help our native plants and animals adapt. We will use and support best practice conservation science to tackle these challenges. We will promote our efforts to inspire others to follow our lead.
Delivering value to Bank Australia and our customers
As the bank grows by attracting new customers, so does its ability to create greater positive environmental and social outcomes and value for customers through the Conservation Reserve.
This is a new era for the Bank Australia Conservation Reserve and we are excited by its potential to support our planet and enrich the lives of those who experience it.
